Thursday Thoughts
This is where we will collaborate on classroom issues.
“I checked into joining NAEYC after reading your post about it. It seems expensive. Can you tell me more about the benefits and what you like about it?” Joanna B. Virginia Beach, VA
Absolutely! Last week I talked about joining NAEYC (the National Association for the Education of Young Children while doing a book review for our Fill it up Friday post (you can revisit that post here). I’m so glad that brought many of you to the NAEYC.org website(too bad I’m not getting a kick back for promoting them!).
There are many professional organizations you can join, especially if you teach the primary grades where pedagogy overlaps (ooooh I think I found another word for our Wednesday Words!). I tend to look at my Kindergarteners through the lens of early childhood, much to the chagrin of many of my colleagues. Because of how I view my littles I’ve remained a loyal NAEYC member.
There are various levels of membership.
As a student you can join for the cheapest price. You receive the same perks as a regular membership, but you need a student email account to get the cheaper price. This membership is currently $60.
The regular membership includes discounts on conferences and on items in their store as well as your pick of NAEYC periodical sent to your home. This membership is currently $70.
The comprehensive membership is the top of the line. While more expensive it includes all the benefits of the regular membership plus 6 FREE PUBLICATIONS! I’m all about free books! Usually these are on topics that are at the forefront of our field. This membership is currently $115.
All three memberships include membership into your state and local affiliates as well. This membership benefit often gives you access to free or reduced price trainings. Your local affiliate is the best place to get your feet wet with leadership roles in our field.
All three memberships are also TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
Checkout this link for more detailed information.
Leave a comment and let me know if you joined! If you are a member of another professional organization I’d love to hear about that too!
Congratulations on deciding to renew your NAEYC membership. We re excited to serve you for another year.
