Last year (2018) I did the whole #OneWord thing for the first time. Honestly I thought it was kind of silly and wasn’t sure how it would truly impact my year. I went into it full throttle despite my apprehension. I wanted to give it a fair shake. Clearly I’m doing it again so it had an impact. Want to see how much impact? Check out my recap blog here.
During 2018 I became more aware of how little we know about empathy. How to show it, manage it, and especially how to teach it. This year I want to focus not only on the act of being empathetic, but ACTING on that empathy. I want to champion for others. I want to use my voice to amplify the voice of others, to support my fellow humans. I want to become better at supporting the growth of empathy in my little learners. I want to learn to support those littles who, like my little one, deals with too much empathy. The natural empathy she shows is clearly draining and I want to learn to help her manage that stress.
This year instead of throwing kindness like confetti we shower others in true understanding and love. Let’s become more empathetic.
